Vibration Test

MIL-STD-810 F/G/H — RTCA DO 160 G

Vibration Test is performed to determine the structural strength and weak points of the design under the dynamic loads to which the sample is exposed under real working conditions.

This testing is performed in a laboratory environment using strength conditions and loads determined based on military/civilian standards or those closest to the actual operating conditions of the product.

Vibration tests are carried out in the laboratory environment using data collection/processing equipment, control equipment, meters, shakers and, when necessary, a heat cabinet. These tests simulate in a controlled manner the vibrations that products are exposed to during transportation. Vibrations during transportation can cause excessive wear on products, loosening of fasteners and damage to components. Therefore, it is critical that a piece of equipment can withstand a certain level of vibration to maintain its functionality.

Vibration tests are important to determine how well equipment designed specifically for rugged or harsh environments endures without degrading or wearing out over time. The product needs to be tested with these challenges to understand whether it can withstand the intended application or challenge.

Production and acceptance testing of manufacturing materials covers vibration risks. The production and acceptance process of materials subject to environmental testing is designed assuming that the material used to produce the delivery material is the same. This provides the opportunity to test the material for accumulated damage before delivery and confirms the field life of the materials to be delivered after environmental vibration tests.

In case of any changes, the production process must be vibration tested again after completion to check whether it has a negative impact on the life of the material. If production units are moved to a different location for final assembly, it is recommended to recheck after final assembly. Any change in the manufacturing process or method can cause changes in the vibration environment, so re-evaluations of design and qualification must be made.
