ATP Type Tests

ATP HANDBOOK 2020

INSULATED EQUIPMENT TYPE TEST

Insulated Equipment Testing is testing carried out in accordance with the International Agreement on the Transport of perishable foods and the use of special equipment. ATP is an international agreement to which 50 countries are parties. It regulates the transportation of perishable foods under certain conditions with special transportation equipment and coolers. ATP convention; meat and meat products, milk and dairy products, seafood, ice cream, etc. It contains the transportation rules of chilled or frozen products. Transport of fresh vegetables and fruits is not included in the ATP convention. The purpose of ATP tests is to ensure appropriate temperature conditions and sustainability of the mentioned perishable foods during transportation, taking into account their quality and food safety. Some countries that are party to the agreement have aimed to increase the quality and safety of perishable foods by including the ATP convention conditions, which are valid for international transportation, within the scope of domestic transportation legislation in their countries. STEST, ATP insulated equipment type tests are carried out on special transportation equipment used to transport perishable food items specified in the agreement. The ATP convention has a wide range of insulated equipment, starting from semi-trailer sizes to include small commercial vehicles. It also includes insulated transportation equipment that carries tank type liquid food. In addition, insulated containers with a volume of less than 2 m³ are also included in the certification. In addition to insulated equipment, systems such as mechanical cooling/heating devices and eutectic plates are also certified according to the ATP convention.

One of the type testing procedures covered by the ATP agreement is insulated equipment type testing. ATP insulated equipment type tests are carried out on special transportation equipment used to transport perishable food items specified in the agreement.

COOLING DEVICE TYPE TEST

It is applied to mechanical cooling devices with forced air circulation evaporator, with or without a heating device. Mechanical refrigeration devices are intended for use with insulated transport equipment. Equipment for the international carriage of perishable foodstuffs shall not be described as 'insulated', 'refrigerated', 'mechanically chilled', 'heated' or 'mechanically chilled and heated' equipment unless it complies with specified definitions and standards. These are the test steps applied to calculate the cooling capacity of the cooling units in vehicle cabins at the specified temperature value within the scope of ATP type tests. In order to ensure safe shipment of food in line with customer demand, the cooling units in vehicle cabins are tested within the scope of ATP HANDBOOK 2020.
