EMITTED VOLTAGE SURGES TEST
Emitted Voltage Surges Test
The MIL-STD-1275 D/E/F series, which defines 28V DC input power characteristics for equipment used in military vehicles, includes the “Emitted Voltage Surges Test” to evaluate the immunity of onboard electronic equipment against voltage ripple phenomena.
In the Emitted Voltage Surges Test, voltage ripple events caused by the vehicle engine or other sources are applied to electronic equipment designed for military-vehicle use, and the equipment response to these ripples is measured. During the test, the voltage waveform and frequency are selected in accordance with MIL-STD-1275 D/E/F requirements.
Purpose Objective
- To evaluate the immunity of onboard electronic equipment to voltage ripple in a vehicle environment.
- To verify that the ripple waveform and frequency comply with MIL-STD-1275 D/E/F requirements.
- To support improved vehicle-level operational safety and reliability.
Test Scope Scope
- Application of voltage ripple events arising from the vehicle engine or other sources.
- Measurement of the response of electronic equipment intended for military-vehicle applications.
- Selection of the ripple waveform and frequency in accordance with MIL-STD-1275 D/E/F.
Technical Implementation Process
- The equipment is subjected to the defined ripple waveform while its functional performance is continuously monitored.
- Critical functions are specifically verified to confirm correct operation throughout the test.
- The equipment response to the applied ripple conditions is measured and documented.
Application Areas Use
- Verification of the robustness of electronic equipment used in military vehicles against voltage ripple.
- Ensuring that onboard electronic equipment remains reliable and operates correctly under ripple conditions.
- Validation activities supporting improved vehicle safety and mission readiness.
