Purpose

This test is performed to evaluate the performance of windshield defrosting/de-icing systems installed in operator cabins of construction and excavation machinery. The objective is to ensure that ice-covered glass surfaces can be cleared within specified time limits to provide a safe field of vision.

Scope

Removal of ice formed on the operator compartment and windshield surfaces.

Applications carried out under laboratory conditions using standardized test equipment.

Execution of tests in climatic chambers that simulate real operating environments.

Procedure

The machine or product under test is conditioned in laboratory facilities under specified ambient temperature and humidity conditions.

An ice layer is formed on the windshield surface.

The in-cabin defrosting system (heater, ventilation ducts, or electrically heated windshield systems) is activated.

The de-icing time and de-icing ratio are recorded for designated areas of the windshield.

Evaluation

De-icing times are compared against the limits specified in the standard.

It is verified whether the required sections of the windshield are sufficiently cleared of ice to ensure a safe operator field of view.

The test is conducted to quantify the de-icing performance of products or vehicles and to establish a standardized reference criterion.
