VOLTAGE RIPPLE TEST
Voltage Ripple Test
MIL-STD-1275 (28 VDC Input Power Characteristics for Military Vehicle Applications), including revisions D/E/F, defines requirements for the design and verification of electrical power sources and connected equipment used on military ground vehicles.
The Voltage Ripple Test is one of the prescribed verification procedures within this standard.
The Voltage Ripple Test is used to simulate voltage ripple and fluctuations that may occur during vehicle or equipment operation. During the test, controlled ripple conditions are applied at the power input and the unit under test is observed and measured to verify acceptable performance and immunity under these conditions.
Objective Purpose
- To assess the immunity of military vehicles and on-board equipment to voltage ripple conditions.
- To identify potential electrical vulnerabilities that may occur during operational use.
Test Scope Scope
- Application of voltage ripple at defined frequencies and amplitudes.
- Measurement and monitoring of electrical response and performance at the power input.
Technical Approach Process
- Voltage ripple is applied using controlled test setups and instrumentation.
- Results are evaluated against the acceptance criteria defined in MIL-STD-1275 D/E/F.
Typical Applications Use
- Military ground vehicles and platform sub-systems.
- Military systems operating from 28 VDC power architecture.
