TS EN 1789
What Is TS EN 1789?
TS EN 1789 is the standard titled “Medical Vehicles and Their Equipment – Road Ambulances and Equipment Requirements.” Recognized across Europe and published in Türkiye by TSE, this standard defines the design, safety, equipment, and performance criteria for road ambulances.
Why Is It Important?
Ambulances represent the first link in the life-saving chain. For this reason, vehicles must be safe, hygienic, and robust in order to protect both patients and medical personnel. TS EN 1789 establishes these requirements and ensures compliance with internationally recognized safety levels.
Scope:
The standard covers:
- Vehicle types (Class A1, A2, and C ambulances),
- Interior equipment and medical device fixation,
- Safety equipment (seat belts, crash resistance),
- Hygiene requirements (cleanable surfaces, resistance to disinfection),
- Climate control systems (ventilation, cooling, heating)
within its scope.
Climate Control Testing
A key component of TS EN 1789 consists of tests that verify the climate control performance of ambulances.
The interior temperature of the ambulance must be maintained within specified limits regardless of external environmental conditions.
Air-conditioning and ventilation systems are tested to ensure both patient comfort and the correct operation of medical equipment.
Cooling, heating, and ventilation systems are evaluated for durability and performance under various operating scenarios.
During testing, homogeneous temperature distribution, humidity control, and the adequacy of airflow within the ambulance are assessed.
