LDC105 NORMAL VOLTAGE TRANSITIONS TEST
LDC105 Normal Voltage Transitions Test
The MIL-STD-704 Aircraft Electric Power Characteristics standard, prepared by the U.S. Department of Defense, defines
electrical power requirements for military aircraft and airborne equipment, including voltage, frequency, phase, ripple, and maximum current.
The most recent revision is MIL-STD-704F_CHG-1, published in 2016. Beyond its use by the U.S. military and its subcontractors,
the standard is widely accepted worldwide for assessing the compliance of military aircraft systems and equipment.
Aircraft electrical power supplied in accordance with MIL-STD-704 is converted to the voltage levels required for the operation of onboard equipment.
To demonstrate conformity with MIL-STD-704, equipment is required to undergo the relevant MIL-STD-704 test sequences to evaluate the effects of defined
power conditions and to verify compliance.
The LDC105 Normal Voltage Transitions Test is performed to verify that 28 VDC utilization equipment continues to operate and maintains
the specified performance when subjected to rapid increases or decreases in steady-state voltage within very short time intervals, as defined in MIL-STD-704.
Objective Purpose
- To assess compliance with MIL-STD-704 requirements covering parameters such as voltage, frequency, phase, ripple, and maximum current.
- To evaluate the effects of defined power conditions and ensure compliance through the applicable MIL-STD-704 test sequences.
- To verify, via the LDC105 Normal Voltage Transitions Test, that 28 VDC utilization equipment operates and maintains the specified performance when exposed to rapid rises or drops in steady-state voltage within very short time intervals.
Test Scope Scope
- Conversion of aircraft electrical power supplied in accordance with MIL-STD-704 into the voltage levels required for onboard equipment operation.
- Exposure of utilization equipment to transient voltage variations within the normal limits of the applicable MIL-STD-704 revision(s) during the LDC105 Normal Voltage Transitions Test.
- Acceptance based on MIL-STD-704-8 and the relevant table, provided the utilization equipment operates and maintains performance as specified in its performance specification under normal aircraft electrical conditions.
Technical Approach Process
- The utilization equipment shall maintain the specified performance during and after voltage transitions.
- During the LDC105 Normal Voltage Transitions Test, the utilization equipment shall not be damaged or create any unsafe condition.
- MIL-STD-704 defines test conditions for aircraft electric power characteristics; related verification activities may also be evaluated in conjunction with applicable system safety and electromagnetic environment requirements, where relevant to the program.
Typical Applications Use
- Compliance assessment of military aircraft and associated systems.
- Verification of onboard equipment by converting aircraft power to required operating voltage levels and confirming conformity.
- Validation that 28 VDC utilization equipment operates and maintains performance under normal voltage transitions.
At our STEST facility in Ankara, accredited by TURKAK, the LDC105 Normal Voltage Transitions Test is performed within the scope of the MIL-STD-704 Aircraft Electric Power Characteristics standard in accordance with TS EN ISO/IEC 17025.
