Electrostatic Discharge (ESD) Immunity Verification in Accordance with MIL-STD-461

CS118/ESD – Electrostatic Discharge Test

The CS118 test, defined within the scope of MIL-STD-461, is intended to evaluate the immunity of electrical and electronic equipment to electrostatic discharge (ESD) events. The test assesses the equipment’s robustness against ESD originating from direct contact or close-proximity discharges and verifies compatible operation with other onboard systems. By ensuring stable performance during mission conditions, CS118 supports electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) across the platform.

Purpose of the CS118 Test Objective

  • Evaluate immunity to electrostatic discharge (ESD) events.
  • Verify robustness against ESD effects originating from direct contact or close-proximity discharges.
  • Support stable operation during mission conditions and platform-level EMC compliance.

Scope of the CS118 Test Scope

  • Assesses the ESD performance of equipment used on military platforms.
  • Tests are conducted in accordance with the voltage and current levels defined in MIL-STD-461 revisions E, F, and G.

CS118 Test Method Process

  • Controlled electrostatic discharges are applied to specified points on the equipment or from close proximity, as required.
  • Equipment functions are observed and any malfunctions are recorded.
  • The equipment’s robustness against ESD events is evaluated based on observed performance.

Our CS118 Testing Services and Infrastructure STEST

  • We perform CS118 ESD testing in accordance with MIL-STD-461 revisions E, F, and G in our TÜRKAK-accredited laboratory, compliant with TS EN ISO/IEC 17025.
  • Tests are executed using configurations aligned with platform and project requirements, based on the methods defined by the standard.
  • CS118 testing is conducted in our shielded room, ensuring the measurement conditions required by military standards.

At STEST, we conduct CS118 electrostatic discharge (ESD) tests under the scope of MIL-STD-461 within our accredited infrastructure, ensuring the measurement conditions required by military standards.
