ATP TYPE TESTS
Insulated Equipment Type Test
The Insulated Equipment Type Test is performed under the Agreement on the International Carriage of Perishable Foodstuffs and on the Special Equipment to be Used for such Carriage (ATP). ATP is an international agreement to which 50 countries are party, setting out the rules for transporting perishable foodstuffs under defined conditions using specialized transport equipment and refrigeration systems.
The ATP Convention covers transport requirements for chilled or frozen products such as meat and meat products, milk and dairy products, seafood, and ice cream. The transport of fresh fruits and vegetables is not included within the scope of the ATP Convention.
The purpose of ATP testing is to ensure that appropriate temperature conditions are established and maintained throughout transportation, safeguarding both product quality and food safety. Certain contracting countries have also incorporated ATP requirements into their domestic transport regulations to further enhance quality and safety in national logistics operations.
Scope of the ATP Convention Scope
- It regulates the transport of perishable foodstuffs under defined conditions using special equipment and refrigeration systems.
- It covers chilled/frozen products such as meat and meat products, milk and dairy products, seafood, and ice cream.
- The transport of fresh fruits and vegetables is not included within the ATP Convention.
- In some countries, ATP requirements have also been incorporated into domestic transport legislation.
Insulated Equipment Type Tests Type Test
- One of the ATP type-approval procedures is the insulated equipment type test.
- Tests are carried out on special transport equipment used for carrying perishable foodstuffs as defined in the agreement.
- The scope includes a wide range of insulated equipment, from semi-trailer sizes down to smaller commercial vehicles.
- Insulated tank equipment for liquid foods and insulated containers smaller than 2 m³ are also included within the certification scope.
By performing insulated equipment type tests within the scope of ATP, STEST supports the sustainable maintenance of temperature requirements and food safety during the transport of perishable foodstuffs.
